Home inspectors inspect homes for major defects usually for home buyers.  Ideally home inspectors are independent professionals hired by potential home buyers to help make them aware of defects that have a material effect on their safety and the value of the home.

During the home buying process most home buyers only want to know the "good things" about the home. While the newer kitchen and bathroom are selling points home inspectors are trained to look at the home thorough the eye of a home inspector and many times find the cosmetic upgrades buyers fell in love with are covering major structural, plumbing and electrical defects.
